Manasseh Oko Addofirst, 2023
I wanted to do something that would enhance my skills and increase my economic gains. That was when I found DFS Africa. Initially, I was worried about the cost implications, but when I found that it was free, I decided to grab the opportunity. Currently, I’m a freelance photographer, and the knowledge from the DFS course has given me a fair idea of how to document every program I go to, even without a script.

I developed an interest in Documentary Filmmaking when my company started making corporate documentaries. I enrolled in the Writing and Directing for Documentary Class at DFS, and I was glad I did.Currently, I work in the same organisation as a Director and a Production Manager. I write meaningful treatments and bring my clients’ vision to life.

I am an alumnus of the Writing and Directing for Documentary class. Even before the DFS Africa film project, the Ghana YMCA has been organizing film training with their film partners.

DFS Africa gave me the boost and the confidence I needed to jump into big projects and not be afraid because I had learned the rudiments of filmmaking. I will encourage any young person out there to enrol at in DFS Africa because for me, it’s been a life-changing moment. I know life-changing sounds cliché, but truth, truly speaking, DFS changed my life in terms of documentary production and storytelling.

This training has had a significant impact on the projects I’m currently working on, especially my work in comics with Modin Comics. Writing for the screen taught me the importance of visual storytelling, pacing, and character arcs, all of which are crucial when creating dynamic and engaging comic book narratives. My background in screenwriting has helped me approach comic writing with a cinematic mindset.
